Children & Youth

Welcome

We invite you and your children to join us for a variety of opportunities in church school, youth choir and teen ministry. We offer classrooms of 5 age levels, from nursery to preteen, where children can creatively explore issues of faith and biblical heritage in a supportive community.

The children actively prepare their worship space. Each classroom has its own altar, and the children select altar cloths appropriate to the ligturgical colors of the church year. They then light the altar candles and begin a time of sharing joys, concerns and prayers. After their lesson is complete, children rejoin their parents before the service of Holy Communion. (Nursery care is available for the whole service if parents choose that option)

We also invite you to review information about our youth choir and teen ministry opportunities.

Noah Nursery
(ages 0-2)

A consistent year-round adult caregiver assisted by one teen volunteer provide age appropriate bible stories and activities based on the Revised Common Lectionary, our selected readings for worship.

Bethlehem Atrium
(ages 3-5)

The Catechesis of the Good Shepard is a Montessori inspired curriculum which encourages children to explore biblical stories and liturgical meaning through hands-on, interactive materials. Teachers act as guides to help the child with his/her own innate spiritual discoveries. "In helping the child's religious life, far from imposing something that is foreign to him, we are responding to the child's silent request, 'Help me come closer to God by myself'" Sofia Cavalletti The Religious Potential of the Child

Jerusalem Atrium
(ages 6-7)

The Godly Play curriculum is also Montessori inspired, incorporating hands-on bible story materials. At this age level, we provide an open environment for the children to wonder about the stories, through questions and playful self-discovery. Tapping children's innate spirituality, we help them find language to express their growing faith.

Nazareth Alrium
(ages 8-9)

The lectionary based curriculum allows children to explore the same readings which their parents will hear in the church service. Creative lesson plans include art activities, music and role-playing.

Trinity Atrium
(ages 10-12)

The lectionary based curriculum allows children to explore the same readings which their parents will hear in the church service. We seek to relate lessons to opportunities for service. Once a month, this class has "Cookie Sunday" where they bake cookies in our kitchen to be served during children's coffee hours...just one way to practice hospitality.

Teen Ministries
(ages 13-18)

Our teens minister to our church as:
* acolytes
*children's worship volunteers
* adult choir members

Connecting service with faith, our teens find seasonal opportunities to serve our community through events, such as cookie bake for shut-ins and earth day clean-up. Our Diocese of CNY also provides special events for teens.

Youth Choir

Our Youth Choir performs at various times throughout the year, at services and at special events. We accept children from first through eighth grades. Also, we always encourage our youth musicians to share talents with the congregation, periodically hosting recitals for parishioners.
